First, an organization determines its goals for data collection. A need often inspires the goal in the organization, such as customer preference or employee motivation factors. Deciding why one wants to collect the data also helps identify which data is relevant (How to Collect Data, 2019). Secondly, a company creates a timeframe within which the data is collected. The length of the time may depend on the availability and ease of retrieval for the ideal data. Thirdly, a company decides on the method of data collection. Within all the methods available, the company chooses a convenient method in terms of cost, accuracy, and time (How to Collect Data, 2019). Fourthly, the organization will collect the data once the why and how have been answered. Lastly, the data is analyzed and stored in a safe location. Before storage, the data may be acted upon accordingly.
