task Requirements

Your task is to design and write up a TPB study in which you will try to predict intentions to engage in a behaviour of your choice from attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control, as well as one additional predictor of your choice.

The theory of planned behaviour (TPB; Ajzen & Madden, 1986; Ajzen, 1991) is a model that incorporates attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control, and behavioural intention as determinants of behaviour. It has been successfully applied to explain many behaviours in the past few decades. It builds on the previous Theory of Reasoned Action (Fishbein & Ajzen, 1975) and has become part of a broader theoretical approach called the Reasoned Action Approach (Fishbein & Ajzen, 2010). Introduction

  • The introduction should set the scene for the present research. It should describe and integrate the literature on the TPB, new predictor(IV), and behaviour of choice, and use this literature to explain the proposed relationship between all four predictor variables (TPB + new predictor) and intentions to engage in the behaviour of choice. The proposed relationships should be theoretically and empirically sound. A rationale should be provided for the present research (e.g., Why does this work need to be done? What might the theoretical and/or applied contribution be?). A rationale for why a new IV needed to be considered, in the context of the TPB, was required.
  •  At the end of the introduction, the aim of the study should be specified, the study itself should be succinctly described, and clear hypotheses should be stated.
  • Although the focus of the current study was on the novel IV, evidence/hypotheses for the TPB model should not be neglected. The amount of variance the TPB model could predict before/after including the novel IV was important to disambiguate what the novel IV could contribute[1].
