Social Work

Social workers utilize the theory of human need to fulfill their obligations. In the social work field, social workers’ central role is to identify, address human needs, and advocate for them. Dover (2009) cites that the National Association of Social Workers’ primary code of ethics is to enhance human beings by paying attention to people’s basic human needs. Therefore, social workers play a vital role in the identification and fulfillment of human needs.

Social work is a practice-based profession that seeks to change people’s lives by helping them address their needs and finding positive answers to their life challenges. The discipline applies various social phenomena such as sociology, psychology, public health, economics, and political science.

Social workers function in several settings such as hospitals, schools, settlement houses, human service agencies, community development corporations, among other areas. In the social care field, agencies recruit social workers and find positions that suit them the best (Social Work recruitment agency listing, n.d.). Some of the agencies include; Care-Hire solutions limited, a UK organization that seeks social workers to work in both temporary and permanent roles. Other agencies are; Sky Recruitment and Care- Temporary Division, Peritus Healthcare Ltd, and Bailey Care services. These agencies make it easier for social workers to access job opportunities.

The term voluntary agencies imply non-profit social agencies that are financed by the public sector to offer services to the community. On the contrary, government agencies serve the same purpose but are often funded by the government or state. However, there is a symbiotic relationship between government and voluntary agencies; they depend on each other in some instances (Morris, 1982). For example, voluntary agencies may rely on the government for funding.
