Social Work

In California, most people practice the modern Western culture of the United States. The culture has been formed from the influence of large immigrant populations such as Latin America and Asia. Due to its technological advancement, entertainment joints, and economic fads, California people accommodate numerous tourists from other states in America and across the world. The California people are governed through both state laws and federal policies (Popple & Leighninger, 2019). Some of these policies are expressed below.

State Policies

1. The California Penal Code section 13650 is a policy that requires all law enforcement agencies to post online all their current standards and practices, including their operating procedures. This policy enhances open governance whereby the people can access from the internet what is required of them as law-abiding citizens. Also, the public can see the robust and extensive policies and procedures that are required by the law. Similarly, they can identify specific individuals or offices that they can hold to account.
2. The ASB Digital Video Recording Policy requires all owners of such devices to provide visual records, to be used in criminal prosecutions, civil liabilities, and to contribute to future law enforcement training (Giordano, 2004). This ensures that the people of California remain safe and protected.

Federal Policies

1. The Medicaid and Child’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is a policy in the US that aimed to increase Medicaid coverage by 26 percent. In 2018, the program funded 71 percent of births in 2018 (Flores et al., 2005). This policy has significantly helped the mothers reduce their charges in the birth process.
2. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is a policy known commonly as food stamps. In the program, the government helps more than 30 million people buy food (Ratcliffe, McKernan & Zhang, 2011). Most of the vulnerable populations in the country are the expectant women and children. The policy helps to protect them from hunger and starvation.
