Section 1: Barriers of Evidence-Based Practice(EBP) and Ways of improving it in Organizations

The provision of high-quality care services challenges many health care systems. They adopt the EBP system to counter these challenges and provide quality care services at a minimal cost. However, effective implementation of EBP is hindered by several barriers such as lack of human resources, which is characterized by the shortage of nurses, and inadequate facilities (Khammarnia et al., 2015). Most health care services lack enough nurses to implement the EBP system. More so, there are limited computers and other material resources needed to implement EBP (Khammarnia et al., 2015). Another organizational barrier is inadequate professional support and supervision from head nurses and institutional administration.

Additionally, heavy workloads challenge the implementation of EBP in organizations whereby nurses are loaded with many duties and lack time to implement EBP (Khammarnia et al., 2015). On the individual level, nurses lack professional autonomy to implement the EBP systems (Khammarnia et al., 2015). Nurses also lack the required knowledge and skills to implement EBP. These challenges have hindered its effectiveness in most health facilities.

To implement EBP in  the organization, I would ensure that health personnel are equipped with skills and knowledge such as computer literacy. I would also provide resources and leadership support to boost the morale of the health officials to foster implementation.

Section 2: Patients Appointment Reminder

In several cases, patients tend to forget their upcoming appointments increasing the rate of missed appointments. My goal is to reduce the no-show rate by integrating soft wares with electronic health records to trigger automatic patient reminders about their upcoming appointments and allow patients to cancel appointments ahead of time. Through these reminders, I will also be able to quickly follow up on patients’ attendance and reduce manual front office calls, which consume a lot of time.
