Environmental Justice

The United States faces issues such as socioeconomics and environment. Also, these issues are related. For instance, this discussion is prompted by the observation that, in general, there is a relationship between poverty and environmental pollution.

First, poverty is caused by an array of factors such as poor government plans, dense population, inadequate access to education and literacy programs, unemployment, among others (World Bank par.2). Poor infrastructural development leads to poor utilization of resources such as overexploitation or under exploitation. Lack of education devoid a population the knowledge on how to utilize natural resources efficiently. A high population increases pressure on the available natural resources.

Hence, I think it is inarguable that the environment and poverty are inseparable. For instance, people in densely populated areas, where infrastructural development is low, tend to overexploit natural resources. That may be the reason for the high rate of deforestation or under reliance on green energy. People end up in situations where they cannot correctly dispose of their household or industrial wastes, or strategically manage their hygiene. In another perspective, poor people rely on the environment heavily than the rich. Amid the generally polluted environment, poor people – who interact with it directly, become the magnifying lens for the pollution. For instance, dust pollution is more prevalent in such areas since most people walk as a means of transport.
