ABC Poem

Accept my proposal If you receive it,

Because I am at my best.

Consider that my pursuit

Does not, and may never relent.

Every morning I see your

Face, and my day brightens

God knows

How only you

Induce joy to me

Just by waving back.

Keeping count of

Low moments I saw you, and

Miraculously felt good,

No amount of wealth could

Offer such a feeling.

Poor me! I cannot

Quite say to you these things

Right to your face.

Says nice and lovely

Things about you on paper,

Unsure of your reaction if I

Voiced my stammer to you.

Who would desire, or

Expect to love a stammered?

Yet somehow, I wish God could

Zap you into accepting my proposal.

On the ward bed

I figured out that bend,

And knew all had to end.

I was to blame for killer potholes

Had voted to who knew lobby loopholes

And my timid to point their failure was a whole

Pie the opportunity to change the definition of their role.

Zig-zagging down the road

Trying not to stray over the center line

Or hit a curb

Or break an axle

Or flatten a tire

Or wind up in the next surprise sinkhole.

Driving in Toledo is not a sport

For the timid or the sane or the under-insured.

Rushing through the dark,

It was clear that they had left it all.

Their faces spoke more than words could say

Yet, the nation ear chose not to listen.

Men empty-handed, mothers carrying their babes,

All crossing the Jordon river into the promised land.

For the massagers had profiled the promised

land by the best nouns and adverbs.

Free education, healthcare, civil rights, and freedom

Were rare across their Jordan River.

Yet, it is the peace of a free man,

The confidence of an educated man,

And the strength of a healthy man that mattered.

Unfortunately, the Jordan river was electric,

And the promised land could never be theirs.

Rather, they changed masters!

From violence to intimidation,

From hunger to incarceration,

From poor health to discriminative health.

Racism!

Stereotyping, profiling

Challenging Civil Rights

Spread, learned, since 1700s

A blame game seemingly fun

But hateful.
