Living in a Big City is better than Living in a Small Town

Living in a big city has many merits because of the diversity found in big cities. Life in a big city offers various opportunities such as job opportunities, good public transport, authentic restaurants, exposure to significant events, the best medical facilities, and others. This paper will argue that living in a big city is better than living in a small town.

Big cities have a vast opportunity for jobs compared to small towns. The job opportunities in big cities are also vast in variety such that one chooses the kind of job he or she wants. The employment rate in big cities continues to grow at a faster rate than in small towns because of extensive and early exposure to educational, economic, and environmental advancements (Rryan, 2020). For instance, some technology-focused jobs are primarily found in big cities as the big cities have more urban eco-systems that suit the job’s rules. Big cities are industrialized and have many companies which offer employment opportunities (Rryan, 2020). Employers in big cities pay a higher salary to the employees to cater to the city’s cost of living (Ryan, 2020). Therefore, living in a big city is better because one gets more job opportunities than in small towns.

Living in a big city enables one to experience a better transportation system. Apart from buses and taxis, big cities have subways that help one move faster and conveniently from one point to another (Rryan, 2020). Good mass transportation is an ideal alternative to dealing with traffic and parking when driving your car. One can also travel on a train, air, highways, and sometimes through water, which offers a serene environment for novel lovers to read their novel in peace. Apart from the comfortability of using transport facilities such as trains and buses, it is also affordable and saves one the hassle of driving around narrow roads in small towns (Ryan, 2020). An efficient mass transportation system is proof of the good life in big cities.

The medical facilities and services found in big cities are top-notch compared to those found in small towns. People in small towns are advised to seek further medical attention from doctors or specialists in big cities (Rryan, 2020). The top-notch medical service in big cities is because only well-learned and qualified staff are hired (Rryan, 2020). The competition in the medical industry among big cities prompts them to hire only qualified staff guaranteeing the best treatment with no exception (Rryan, 2020). Therefore, living in a big city would save those living in small towns the energy, time, and resources of traveling to find better medical facilities in big cities.

Big cities have top recognized shopping centers and restaurants compared to small towns. The shopping centers have branded items that one interested in branding can purchase (Rryan, 2020). There are a variety of shopping centers to choose from in big cities. For instance, there are urban malls with about four shopping levels with over 230 retailers that offer different lines of products (Rryan, 2020). Many restaurants in big cities are authentic. One can easily find a preferred cuisine from fast-food chains to Mom and Pop restaurants (Ryan, 2020). The restaurants usually have food stands and lunch and dinner specials that accommodate the city’s high dining options (Ryan, 2020). Therefore, one would find it better to live in a big city with plenty of shopping centers and restaurants.

There is a higher chance of meeting new people from different places in big cities than in small towns where the people are mainly from the place you reside. People create diverse opportunities by meeting and interacting with new people who have new ideas in life. The city has a significant population, and it is apparent that one can meet new people who could suggest new opportunities (Jagannath, 2020). When adapting to the city’s lifestyle, one may interact with a few people who might be agents of establishing connections and networks needed to thrive in the city (Jagannath, 2020). The big cities usually hold concerts, festivals, and sporting activities where people from different places gather. It is, therefore, easier to meet new people in such events that happen in big cities.

There are more educational institutions in big cities than in small towns. The many education institutions in big cities offer a variety of courses which students can choose. Big cities have a variety of opportunities to offer students. According to College Board, big cities give students access to internships at top companies, cooperative classes, and other career-boosting experiences (Henshaw, 2017). The variety of cultural opportunities in big cities, such as theatre performances, concerts, and museums, expose students to broad information which equips them with first-hand knowledge (Henshaw, 2017). Living in big cities, therefore, gives one the advantage of better education.

Through the various opportunities found in big cities, it is portrayed that living in a big city is better than living in a small town. Statistics support that a higher population lives in big cities than in small towns. People move to big cities in search of the opportunities that only big cities can offer.
